Two NSW Song Room students accepted for Scholarships
The Song Room would like to congratulate Shalvey Public School student Mataiva Mati for her acceptance into the Australian Youth Choir. Not only has she made the cut for the choir, but Mataiva has progressed straight through to the level 2 choir group; a fantastic achievement! This scholarship and choir program will give Mataiva access to lessons in vocal technique, transposition, music theory, sight reading, and participation in AYO performances.
During her program at Kingswood South Public School in Penrith, TSR Teaching Artist Alison Windsor noticed one of her students, Luke Pittaway had great skill, enthusiasm and potential in drama. Alison nurtured this talent and encouraged Luke to apply for a scholarship with The Song Room to support access to additional drama lessons outside of school.
With the support of his school and family, Luke was subsequently awarded a TSR Merit Scholarship in April 2012 and has since been receiving weekly drama lessons within Studio Q, at the Joan Sutherland Centre in Penrith. Luke has utilised these lessons to their full potential and his teachers have watched his skills and confidence grow weekly. This scholarship has lead to a fantastic outcome as Luke has recently applied for, and been accepted into the Nepean Performing Arts High School. Luke’s mum Michelle has been thrilled with the news, saying that “If it wasn’t for Alison and The Song Room’s program, we would have had no idea that Luke could do any of this. We’re so proud, he’s just blown us away.”
Congratulations to Luke and Mataiva from everyone at The Song Room!
