The National Cultural Policy
The National Cultural Policy has recently been launched by the Australian Government with the intention of setting up a framework for support for arts, culture and creativity in Australia for the next decade.
This policy was put together after a long series of submissions and consultations with arts practitioners, industry professionals, peak bodies and associations, including The Song Room. The core of our submission was the transformative capacity of the arts and creative thinking to drive positive educational outcomes.
The Song Room is referenced in the document as an example of an arts education program which is driving creativity and innovation in young Australians, focussing not only on artistic outcome, but also the creative process.
The first in its kind for over 20 years, this policy goes a long way towards recognising the need for Australia’s creativity to be recognised as a vehicle to help shape our national identity, social cohesion and economic success.
