The Song Room x MECCA M-POWER Partnership Launch

The Song Room is incredibly proud to announce our new, landmark partnership with M-POWER, MECCA’s movement for gender equality, launching nationwide this October as part of the Born Creative campaign.

As part of celebrating International Day of the Girl, MECCA’s Born Creative campaign is designed to unlock the creativity we are all born with.

MECCA’s Born Creative campaign is powered by MECCA M-POWER, which has invested more than $40 million in gender equality initiatives since 2022.

“Through Born Creative, we want to help protect creative confidence early, giving young people across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand more opportunities to experiment and express this skill in safe and supportive environments. We’re also working with families and schools, because our research shows they have the biggest influence on creativity.” – Lisa Keenan, Chief Purpose Officer, MECCA

MECCA M-POWER’s incredible contribution to The Song Room will allow 12,000 young children across the country in 25 primary schools access the transformational benefits of our arts learning programs.

“Our partnership with MECCA M-POWER will enable us to provide thousands of kids across the country – many of them navigating disadvantage – with tailored creative arts programs they might not otherwise experience.

For us, it’s about more than giving these children a chance to shine in the arts. It’s about helping them be heard, share how they’re feeling and build real connection and confidence at school.” – Alice Gerlach, Chief Executive Officer, The Song Room

In August, The Song Room team had the pleasure of visiting MECCA’s Support Centre in Richmond to introduce our work to MECCA team members and share the impact this partnership will create for young people and school communities across Australia. The morning also gave the team a taste of The Song Room in action, with creativity, music and plenty of participation bringing the partnership to life from the very beginning.

The fun continued at MECCA’s Leadership Conference in September, where Song Room CEO Alice Gerlach and Board Member and industry ambassador Ali McGregor brought hundreds of MECCA team members together inside Melbourne’s Royal Exhibition Building for a Song Room x MECCA Choir moment. The connection and energy that filled the room was the perfect way to celebrate what sits at the heart of this partnership.

We’re incredibly excited to bring this partnership to life alongside the wonderful team at MECCA, creating more opportunities for young people to find their creative voice, strengthen their wellbeing and connect more deeply with their learning through the arts.

Follow along on our social channels for more updates as we celebrate MECCA’s Born Creative campaign and share the impact of this partnership in schools and communities across Australia.
