New! The Song Room joins SA External Wellbeing Programs Directory

South Australian schools now have access to a powerful new wellbeing opportunity for their students.

The Song Room’s Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) through the Arts program is on the External Wellbeing Programs Directory. This opens the door for more South Australian government schools to embed creative, evidence-based wellbeing practices into their whole school approach.

This is arts-rich learning with a clear wellbeing purpose—designed to meet students where they are and help them thrive.

The Song Room Joins the SA External Wellbeing Programs Directory

The Song Room’s SEL through the Arts program is designed to meet the needs of all learners, including diverse, disadvantaged, and vulnerable students through creative, strengths-based, and culturally responsive approaches.

The program supports schools to:

  • Develop students’ self-awareness, social awareness, emotional regulation, and relationship skills through explicit, curriculum-aligned SEL delivered via the arts.
  • Strengthen belonging, confidence, and engagement through whole school and community building creative projects.
  • Support positive mental health and wellbeing outcomes using trauma-informed, inclusive pedagogies.
  • Build school capacity by embedding creative, sustainable wellbeing practices aligned with the Australian Curriculum, supporting the development of students’ Personal and Social Capability.

What Your School Will Receive

South Australian government schools can apply right now to participate in the program. Each school receives:

  • 8 x sequential half-day in-class sessions (minimum 45 minutes), delivered during school hours. Sessions can be delivered face-to-face, online, or in a hybrid model, and include individual, group, and whole school learning experiences.
  • 1 x half-day planning and induction session with school leadership and wellbeing teams.
  • 1 x half-day CRT cover to support teacher participation.

Every program also includes one community engagement arts project, culminating in a whole school or community celebration that builds pride, connection, and shared ownership of learning and wellbeing outcomes.

Why The Song Room

For more than 26 years, The Song Room has partnered with schools across Australia to deliver high-impact arts learning for children experiencing disadvantage. We’re proud to bring this proven, trauma-informed program to South Australian communities—supporting students’ wellbeing, strengthening school culture, and building capacity for long-term, sustainable change.

The Song Room has been delivering trauma-informed wellbeing and arts learning programs, including the program currently listed on the Victorian Government’s Schools Mental Health Menu, since 2022. Our Teaching Artists bring deep creative expertise and educational excellence, ensuring high-quality outcomes for students, teachers, and artists alike.

This impactful arts and wellbeing program—already making a difference in other states—is now available to South Australian schools for the first time. We’re excited to partner with SA educators to strengthen wellbeing through arts learning and creativity.
