The Song Room celebrates two awards in the one week!
The Song Room celebrates with the Bulman Community from Central Arnhem Land who won a National Indigenous Music Award (NIMA) and a APRA AMCOS Art Music Award 2024.
In fantastic news, earlier this month the Bulman Community from Central Arnhem Land won two magnificent awards.
Wednesday 14 August at the APRA AMCOS Art Music Awards 2024, The Song Room received the Excellence in Music Education award for building thriving communities for children in remote Northern Territory through the co-creation of Australian music centred on local people, places, ways of creating, learning and being through music education.
On the Saturday before, the Bulman School and Community took home the National Indigenous Music Award (NIMA) in the Community Clip of the Year category for Nidjarra, written and recorded as part of their Song Room program. Students and their families from Bulman travelled to Darwin to proudly accept their NIMA Award. You can watch Bulman School accept the award here.
Nidjarra was written and filmed on Dalabon country at Djimdjimrurrk, Gropylyal, Klikklikmarra, Weemol and Bulman. Congratulations to everyone involved, especially local Community Teaching Artist Nathaniel Miller, Steve Lane, Adam Cox, the Bulman School Community and Mimal Land Management for their partnership.
Dalabon Elder, Dudley Lawrence appears in Nidjarra and we thank him for his lessons in Dalabon and for featuring in the song.
This project is supported by The Smith Family, Katherine, as part of the Communities for Children Initiative, funded by the Australian Government Department of Social Services. Special thanks to Eugenie Collyer and her team as well as all at The Song Room who make this impact possible.
