Child Safety Policy

The Song Room is committed to the safety and wellbeing of all children and young people. This is the primary focus of our care and decision-making. We have zero tolerance for child abuse.

Every person involved in The Song Room has a responsibility to understand the important and specific role they play individually and collectively to ensure that the wellbeing and safety of all children and young people is at the forefront of all they do and every decision they make.

The Song Room is committed to providing a child safe environment where children and young people are safe and feel safe, and their voices are heard about decisions that affect their lives. Particular attention is paid to the cultural safety of Aboriginal children and children from culturally and/or linguistically diverse backgrounds, as well as the safety of children with a disability.

Our Child Safety Policy has been updated to comply more fully with both the National Principles and the New Child Safe Standards that began in Victoria from 1 July 2022. The recent Review of Victoria’s Child Safe Standards recommends cultural safety for Aboriginal children and young people as a stand-alone principle. This is reflected in the new Child Safe Standard 1 in our policy.
