ARTS LEARNING | Celebrating Impact 2024
In 2024, The Song Room made a profound impact on young people and school communities across Australia. Our commitment to breaking down barriers for students experiencing the highest levels of disadvantage saw us grow student and teacher participation by 50% in 2024, and increase community engagement projects by 27% compared to 2023. The year was marked by meaningful connections in 271 in-class programs, transformative learning experiences for over 13,000 students, and inspiring success stories from 136 school communities in remote, regional and urban settings.
Amidst ongoing challenges in the education sector, including staff burnout and shortages, The Song Room provided critical support and partnership. Sixty-seven Teaching Artists worked in the classroom to mentor 550 teachers, providing in-class modelling and coaching along with professional learning opportunities for teachers. Over 43,000 subscribers had access to curriculum-aligned arts learning lessons across art forms on The Song Room’s digital learning platform, ARTS:LIVE.
With an eye on innovation, we launched two new pilot programs in response to increasing demand for culturally responsive teaching. In Victoria, we began community consultation for new Deadly Arts initiatives, while in Perth, Western Australia, planning started for the first Early Years Deadly Arts programs. Co-designed and co-delivered by First Nations artists, these programs will roll out in 2025 through ongoing community engagement at three Victorian schools and four early years centres in Western Australia.
By tailoring programs to the unique needs of each school (including improving well-being, fostering cultural learning through the arts, and advancing arts skills and learning across the curriculum),
The Song Room inspired and engaged a diverse range of students and school communities. From music programs in remote Northern Territory and Arts and Wellbeing programs in Western Sydney,
to our flagship Transformational Learning through Creativity program in regional South Australia, The Song Room has made significant strides in schools across the country.
