Yipirinya Students join Bush Bands Bash – Radio National
The Song Room has been running a music program at Yipirinya School in the Northern Territory this semester, and has worked closely with the school to secure funding to continue this program via a successful Pozible crowdfunding campaign.
Yipirinya teaches some of Australia’s most disadvantaged children. The students come from the outstations and town camps of Alice Springs where poverty, overcrowding, abuse and neglect are common and alcohol and violence are endemic.
As part of the program, The Song Room, Yipirinya School and Music NT organised for the students to perform at the 2014 Bush Bands Bash, the peak Central Australian Indigenous music showcase event.
Radio National’s Joel Carnegie flew to Alice Springs to meet with representatives of the school and watch the children rehearse for the event. Listen to his report here.
