Transforming Education through the Arts – Sneak preview of new book launched in Australia in early 2012
Prof Brian Caldwell’s latest book, co-authored by Dr Tanya Vaughan, is Transforming Education through The Arts, published for the international market in November 2011 by Routledge and soon to be available in Australia. It provides a powerful argument for the arts in raising achievement and enhancing student wellbeing and draws on the landmark research conducted by Educational Transformations on The Song Room programs in 2010.
Transforming Education through the Arts provides illustrations from around the world that clearly show how the arts have transformed learning for disengaged students. It draws on a consistent body of world-wide evidence with the centre-piece being landmark experimental research in Australia commissioned by The Song Room and supported by the Macquarie Group Foundation. The research was conducted in some of the most disadvantaged communities in Australia and found significant benefits in student learning and wellbeing from participation in programs in the arts offered by The Song Room. A summary of the Australian study was launched at Parliament House, Canberra in March 2011 by Hon Peter Garrett, Minister for School Education.
