The Song Room Scholarship supports Shalvey student to sing with the AYC
She may only be eight years old, but young Eva from Shalvey Public School in Western Sydney knows exactly what she wants out of life. When asked what she wants to be when she grows up, she replied “I might not be able to choose, because I might be a Pop Star by then.”
The very modest year three student, who currently attends weekly Song Room workshops with Peter Kennard as part of her in-school program, has been the most recent recipient of a TSR Scholarship. The scholarship will be used to support her placement in St Mary’s branch of The Australian Youth Choir in 2013.
Eva’s talent was discovered after she offered to sing a special thank you song at an Interschool’s performance event, supported by The Song Room and Blacktown Arts Centre earlier this year. Her exceptional talent was celebrated by her teachers, Principal and her local TSR PaSO, who looked at opportunities for Eva to continue to develop her vocal skills.
Later in the year, The Song Room contacted Australian Youth Choir to organize an audition for Eva to participate in the choir in 2013. Eva performed exceptionally well in her audition and was offered a position in the level two choral group. Her Song Room scholarship will cover the cost of a year’s tuition and her uniform, with the prestigious performance group where she will learn vocal techniques, transposition, music theory, sight reading and attend performances.
Eva hopes to make it one day as a pop star and for that she knows that she must first finish school so that she is well prepared for interviews and knows what to say. Eva also enjoys gymnastic and hopes to learn dance to help her with performances, she also writes her own songs, and plans on recording an album in the future.
She hopes that this opportunity will give her the chance to do what she loves most, which is to perform in front of and audience and show people her talent. She also hopes that her participation in the choir will give her a chance to make new friends and have fun.
