PlayAir – Selling air instruments to put real ones in the hands of children who need them
From the 22nd August till 2nd October 2016, people across Australia can play air to support the three in four Australian children that do not have access to specialist music education at school.
It’s easy to join in – just head to your local JB Hi-Fi store and purchase an Air Instrument from the counter. Each $2 Air Instrument purchased helps The Song Room put a real instrument in the hands of a child who needs it. As an added bonus, by purchasing an air instrument, you can also enter the competition to win some amazing prizes courtesy of our friends at JB Hi-Fi and Sonos!
You can also get involved by holding your own fundraiser, such as an air guitar competition or a band night.
PlayAir highlights the huge number of children from disadvantaged and marginalised communities who have little or no access to music or arts education despite the significant benefits to children’s development. For more than a decade, The Song Room has delivered valuable programs to children in these communities that are proven to positively impact their school grades, attendance, confidence and wellbeing.
“Playing air guitar is fun, but nothing beats the real thing for kids’ learning and development. We consistently see the extraordinary positive impact music and art can have on schools trying to re-engage with their students. Participation in the arts gives young people a positive experience of learning that transfers to other areas of their education, it also engenders positive connections with their peers and community, and it is a valuable medium for cultural sharing and cohesion.“
