MYER Christmas Window Reveal 2011
On Friday November 4, 2011, The Song Room Choir, made up of students from Resurrection Primary School and Sunshine Special Development School, were the stars of the MYER Christmas Windows Reveal event at Bourke Street Mall, Melbourne.
The Myer Christmas Windows have been a feature of the Melbourne Christmas landscape since 1956. The six main windows on the Bourke St ground floor facade are transformed each year to portray a Christmas story. The theme of the windows each year is a closely held secret which generates significant media and public interest. The unveiled theme for 2011 is: “Santa Clause is Coming to Town”. The windows were launched to the media and public in front of approx 1000 members of the general public and numerous media.
Both choirs sang beautifully and a testament to the Teachers and Principals of each school. Sunshine Special Development School sang a Christmas medley, whilst the Grade 1 and 2’s from Resurrection Primary School sang Silent Night and Rudolph the Red-nosed reindeer. After MYER CEO Bernie Brookes’ speech, he invited one student from Sunshine, Katie, up to stage to have a few words. He then walked with her to be the first in Australia to view all 6 windows. The TSR Choir was invited to follow. Katie especially, was on cloud nine all day!
