Creative Communities Project – Tenambit Sculpture Garden
In partnership with the Coal & Allied Community Trust, The Song Room worked with Public Schools across the Hunter to deliver The Creative Communities Project. Through the use of creative arts activities, the project provided parents and the local community with multiple opportunities to connect back to school to further enhance and support school engagement. Tenambit Public School is one of the focal schools involved in the program in 2012.
The Tenambit project involved extensive planning and community engagement to identify the needs of the community and over the past 8 months has focussed on the production of a Sculpture Garden at the school. The Garden has become a visual identity for Tenambit PS, a meeting place for parents and will also act as an outdoor creative classroom. The Garden was designed to enhance the school environment, become a focal point for the Tenambit community and encourage parents to spend more time at the school
Other partners in the project include Masters Home Improvement in Rutherford who generously donated both materials and human resources toward the project and support from the APRA Music Grants Programs, who funded local singer and songwriter, Lyn Bowtell, to work with the school and community in the development of an original Tenambit Creative Community Song.
The Sculpture Garden was launched at a Community Event on Friday the 19th of October at Tenambit Public School by the Mayor of Maitland, with over one hundred members of the local community attending and taking part in celebrating Tenambit’s culture and history on site at the school.
