ARTS:LIVE University

The Song Room is pleased to announce that ARTS:LIVE is now available to universities across the country to support pre-service teachers (and other course-related students) and university education faculty staff in delivering high quality music and arts education.

Until now, one of the biggest barriers to comprehensive music and arts education for all students is adequate teacher training. Currently pre-service teachers usually only receive less than 20 hours of music and arts education across their undergraduate degrees, and the vast majority of primary schools do not have specialist teachers.

The ARTS:LIVE suite of teaching and learning resources helps teachers build the necessary skills and confidence to ably deliver high-quality curriculum-aligned music and arts content direct into the classroom. Now that it is available direct to universities, pre-service teachers have the opportunity to ‘hit the ground running’, and equip themselves with intimate knowledge of these valuable resources before entering the classroom for the first time.

The first university to implement ARTS:LIVE in its teacher course is Deakin University. With over 5,000 pre-service teachers currently in its undergraduate courses, this represents a significant step towards full support of tomorrow’s teachers to confidently deliver music and arts education in the classroom.

“Deakin University Arts Education colleagues can see the real value of providing ARTS:LIVE to its pre-service teachers, and other students, particularly as it covers all art forms of the Australian Curriculum and for years from Foundation to Year 10”

The Song Room will shortly be undertaking professional development workshops with Deakin University staff and faculty to ensure that all the benefits of this enhancement to its education course are discovered.
