ARIA Music Teacher of the Year – Winner Announced!
At the 2017 ARIA Awards, Renee McCarthy from South Australia received the inaugural ARIA Music Teacher of the Year Award, presented with The Song Room and sponsored by Telstra.
Renee’s music program at Woodcroft College in Morphett Vale has helped students get involved in positive activities, establish connections with others and develop their confidence.
“I am so excited to be recognised by The Song Room and ARIA for doing a job that I love. As a music teacher, I already consider myself lucky for being able to share the musical journeys with my special students, and to receive this Award is an incredible honour. I hope this Award shines the spotlight on music education for all students all across Australia.” – Renee McCarthy
Public voting for the ARIA Music Teacher of the Year Award received tens of thousands of votes from around the country, capturing the hearts and minds of Australians, who shared their own experiences of dedicated music teachers that have positively influenced their lives.
The Song Room and ARIA would like to thank everyone who voted, entered and supported the award. Special thanks to the three ARIA nominated teachers Steve McEwan, Julie Layt and Alex Manton on their exceptional music programs.
We are extremely proud to present the ARIA Music Teacher of the Year Award, to celebrate the exceptional influence music teachers have on our kids, setting them up for a bright future.
Creative kids are brighter kids, and the great work achieved by music teachers around the country, despite the fact that three out of four Australian children miss out on music education in school, is something we all agree is worth celebrating.
