Why should my School join The Song Room Online?
The Song Room Online has been developed to help Schools from disadvantaged communities to implement music / creative arts education into their curriculum. The main tool of The Song Room Online is the website, which is available to every Teacher once a School signs up as a member.
The Song Room Online has been created to cater to a wide range of Schools, but particularly those without specialist music / arts Teachers, so the resources are designed to be used by generalist Teachers. It features a growing range of resources and materials which will form a library of creative arts teaching tools, such as:
- Lesson plans and curriculum resources to download;
- Practical creative arts exercises for generalist Teachers;
- Information, advice and links to other arts and arts education organisations;
- Free creative arts based professional development sessions for Teachers;
- Access to low or no cost performances for students to attend and participate in.
The website will be updated regularly with new materials and information and the older materials will be archived for use and referral at a later date.
How much does membership cost?
Membership is currently free for schools. Every School that signs up will be provided with logon details that can be used by all Teachers at the School for one year.
How is The Song Room Online funded?
As a non-government, not-for-profit organisation, the majority of The Song Room’s funding comes from philanthropic and corporate supporters. Click here for more information on The Song Room’s Supporters & Partners.
Will my School get a workshop program when it becomes a member?
The Song Room uses a range of programs to achieve its vision that all children in Australia have access to music / creative arts education and one of these is the in-school workshop program that is delivered by a Song Room Teaching Artist.
Schools are selected, based on the funding we receive to work with selected demographics and regions, such as areas with high levels of juvenile crime or new arrivals. In remote areas, we aim to work in a ‘cluster’ of around five Schools to maximise the program delivery costs, such as materials, petrol etc.
The Song Room is only able to provide workshop programs to Schools that we receive funding for however, if we can’t run a workshop program in your School, there are still many ways that The Song Room can support you to provide music / creative arts programs in your School through The Song Room Online's resources.
If your School would like to work with us to develop a program, you can fill in an online request form and we’ll do our best to find some funding for your region. To be directed to the program enquiry form: Contact Us
How long does membership last and how do I renew?
The Song Room Online membership is valid for one year. We will send you a renewal notice just before the year is up, so you can continue to enjoy all the benefits without any disruptions.
How long will it take to process my School’s application?
We expect that there will be a one to two week processing time between our receiving your application and sending out your online logon details. Unless otherwise specified, The Song Room will send your logon letter to the contact email provided.
If you haven’t received your logon and its been more than two weeks after sending in your application, please use the general enquiry form in contact us to email us and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
How many Teachers can be online at a time?
The Song Room Online has been specifically developed with the competing challenges of a Teachers’ workload in mind. By ensuring that any number of Teachers from each School are able to logon at the same time, Teachers are able to share and discuss resources and access the site wherever and whenever it might be convenient.
My logon isn’t working – please help!
We recommend that Schools give a copy of the logon letter to each Teacher so that everyone has the same, correct details. Logon and password details cannot be changed by any of the users and will not be changed by us without your knowledge, so if you make sure you have the right details in the first place, nothing can affect your access. If your logon is still not working, please send us a query through our general enquiry form under contact us.
The Song Room Online is not a commercial venture and as a not-for-profit with limited onsite IT specialist skills, some in depth enquiries will need to be referred to our web provider for investigation. If you or your School are having trouble with your membership access, please be patient with us, we will do our best to get you back online as soon as possible.
I’ve lost the logon details – please help!
Your School’s logon details have been sent to the nominated contact at your School so please check with them first (e.g. School administration office or Principal’s office). If the nominated contact that originally received and distributed the logon details has lost them, this person will need to contact The Song Room so we can resend the information.
I’ve just been logged out, what happened?
For privacy and security reasons, you will be logged out after 15 minutes of non-activity. Just return to the home page and log back in again.
Can I share my logon with other Schools?
We ask that you do not share your membership with any other Schools or Teachers. By encouraging all eligible Schools to become members, we can continue to offer this program at no cost.
