Community Partnership Program Queensland
– The Song Room Community Rhythm Project
The Xstrata Community Partnership Program Queensland has been generously supporting The Song Room’s Community Rhythm Project in disadvantaged primary schools in Mt Isa /Cloncurry and Townsville/Charters Towers regions of North Queensland since 2008. The Community Rhythm Project uses music and performing arts to engage socio-economically disadvantaged children, especially Indigenous children, who may have become disengaged from school and learning and who are at risk of early school-leaving.

Primary School Uses The Arts to Combat Bullying
Riverside Primary School in Western Australia is working with The
Song Room to use arts-based programs as a tool to combat antisocial
behaviour such as bullying and gang behaviour in the playground.

Two Rocks Primary School - Western Australia
Two Rocks Primary School is located in a small coastal community, located 70km north of Perth. Children do not receive any creative arts (other than visual arts) or sports programs. The population is rapidly expanding – with the school adding two classes every year. The Song Room program was designed in consultation with the school with the aim of using drama as a means of building student confidence, team work and addressing social challenges in the classroom as well as building teacher skills to incorporate the arts into their teaching.

Early Literacy Program – NSW - Paint Riverstone ReAd!
During 2009 The Song Room, in partnership with Wesley Mission, began
developing Paint Riverstone ReAd. The idea behind Paint Riverstone ReAd
was an early literacy, joint community project offered to preschools
and playgroups throughout the Riverstone/Schofields area of Western
Sydney.

Mentoring Early Intervention – Creative Arts and Music in Geelong,
Victoria
Four Geelong Early Learning Centres, William Hovell Preschool,
Whittington War Memorial Kindergarten, Portarlington Primary School and
the Breakwater Preschool, had particularly successful Song Room workshop
programs in 2009, with increased participation from the children, and
strong support and enthusiasm from the classroom teachers, under the
very successful direction of three Geelong based teaching artists.

200kms South Project - Indigenous Program Stream
The 200kms South Project is a partnership involving
The Song Room and The Northern Territory Music School in Darwin and is
generously supported by Foster’s Group Community Grants Program. A 30
week program running from February to August 2009, it involves the
Teaching Artist travelling to the remote schools south of Darwin to
mentor teachers in preparation for the Adelaide River Choral Festival.

The Bring School to Life Project - Hunter Valley, Musswellbrook
& Cessnock, NSW
The Bring School to Life Project uses music and performing
arts to engage disadvantaged children who have become disengaged from
school and learning and who are at risk of anti-social behaviour and
involvement in juvenile crime.
