The Song Room, as a not-for-profit organisation, accepts funding from a number of key areas, few more important than individual donations and workplace giving, which provides valuable funds to allow us to deliver our suite of tailored music and arts programs to children in need across Australia.

Brian Caldwell on ArtsHub
One of the country’s leading educational researchers, Brian Caldwell of Educational Transformations (who are responsible for undertaking the research project Bridging the Gap in School Achievement through the Arts, as well as the publication Transforming Education through the Arts, both based on The Song Room programs) took to ArtsHub to write a piece on Australia’s preoccupation with numeracy and literacy testing and call for a more well-rounded approach to education and testing structures.

The nib foundation wellbeing program in Hunter Valley
The Song Room has recently established the 'Tuned in for Life - Arts and Wellbeing' program in three schools in the Hunter Valley with a focus on increasing student wellbeing.

Inquiry into the extent, benefits and potential of music education in Victorian schools
There is considerable literature available about the benefits of music and arts programs, particularly regarding the benefits available to children who usually miss out on learning and development opportunities due to socio-economic disadvantage. These benefits include ‘closing the gap’ of disadvantage in academic performance, and social and emotional wellbeing.

The Song Room mourns the passing of Dame Elisabeth
The staff and Board of The Song Room would like to express our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the late Dame Elisabeth Murdoch AC DBE, who passed away today surrounded by her family.

The Song Room Reading Bug program
In partnership with VicSeg, and generously supported by the RE Ross Trust, The Song Room is now in the second year of the Reading Bug Project, a three-year early childhood, literacy program for pre-school children and their parents.

Spotlight on a Song Room Teaching Artist: Marianna Doherty
Marianna Doherty is a Song Room Teaching Artist working on a range of multicultural-based programs:
I have worked in the Collingwood English Language School outposts since February this year. During this time I have met and worked with many beautiful children from all around the world. The language outposts are a great way for the children to be introduced to English and the Australian school systems.
