A Song Room Carnevale at Melbourne Town HallOn Wednesday 2nd November 2011, more than 300 children, teachers and parents from communities across Victoria came together to celebrate the culmination of six month workshops in music and creative arts for the annual The Song Room combined schools performance spectacular at the Melbourne Town Hall. Students from some of the State’s most disadvantaged schools celebrated the achievement of their year’s work with The Song Room in the spectacular surroundings of one of Melbourne’s iconic performance spaces. This year’s musical extravaganza, “Carnevale” celebrates the theme of carnival from around the world, from Brazil to Italy, the Carribean to Mauritius. 300 children from 9 Song Room schools performed their own festive interpretations expressing their love of life through song. Principal Mary Lawrey, from Sacred Heart School said: “Possibilities and avenues for exploration are opened up, and a level playing field is built where they can gain a sense of achievement and begin to learn. The Song Room model helps them feel equal and that their contribution is worthwhile”
