NGV Arts AliveOn Wednesday 15th June, The Song Room held an ‘Arts Alive’ event for primary school students to experience the National Gallery of Victoria. Arts Alive was held in partnership with the NGV School Access Program to explore the links between the performing and visual arts.
Over 360 students attended from 4 schools across Shrewd Brass delivered an interactive and fun filled performance on ways to learn about the history, mechanics and sounds of brass instruments. School Access Program Staff gave tours to students around the gallery to look at a selection of the NGV’s most popular art works. Students were asked to think about the music that they heard and think about what instrument would be played for different works of art. Student’s responses included one student upon looking at a cubist painting saying “Tuba goes with this painting ‘cause it sounds like squares”. Students enjoyed a lunch in the sculpture garden, making up games and freely exploring the artworks and sculptures.
