Life is a Cabaret, old chum!Held at the sumptuous Plaza Ballroom on Thursday 22nd April, this year’s Gala theme Life is a Cabaret celebrated the glamour and thrill of live theatre, with guests enjoying a cabaret style dinner and show. MC for the evening was celebrated Australian comedian and personality, Mikey Robins, who brought warmth and humour to the night and assisted with an action-packed live auction which raised funds for The Song Room’s programs, and guests enjoyed a fantastic evening of entertainment with a spectacular performance by star of Chicago, Caroline O’Connor.
The live and silent auctions featured some amazing prizes such as a John Cavill Gown and a week in a three bedroom suite at the six and a half star Port Douglas resort Bale. Guests enjoyed performances throughout the night, opening with the awesome Abbotsford All Stars from Abbotsford Primary School who performed I Got Rhythm, The Anything Goes cast from Whitehorse Musical Theatre Company who performed a medley from the show and from the star of stage and film, Caroline O’Connor’s marvellous medley of Life is a Cabaret. Renowned Elwood Dad’s Band was the dance band for the evening and had everybody on the dance floor as the evening wore on.
Guests who included some of Melbourne’s philanthropic and corporate leaders learnt about The Song Room’s work with some of the most disadvantaged and marginalised communities across Australia and the positive effects that the arts has had on these children and their communities. The Song Room’s fundraising Gala is a great way of raising awareness of The Song Room’s critical work and an important source of funding. The funds raised at this years’ Gala will help The Song Room reach an additional 2,000 disadvantaged children with our unique programs. We would like to thank all our guests who attended the Gala and the supporters and donors that made this evening possible.
