Brisbane Powerhouse Performance
The Song Room first started running in-school workshop
programs throughout Brisbane Primary schools at the beginning of 2009. Over
that time it has worked in over 12 mainstream and special needs schools. Due to
the success and support of the Song Room programs and the high number of
children reached a professional performance for Brisbane
schools was planned for the 24th of November at Brisbane Powerhouse,
Brisbane’s premier performing arts venue nestled
on the banks of Brisbane
River.

behalf of The Song Room: The Song Room
Online and a Major National Research Project
In July
2008, the new member for Bennelong and Parliamentary Secretary for Early
Childhood Education and Childcare, The Hon. Maxine McKew MP, announced two key national music and creative arts
initiatives to enhance the educational and social outcomes for
disadvantaged children across Australia: The Song Room Online and a Major National Research Project on the
impact of arts-based programs on children.

Terrific results for The Song Room
programs in Mandurah, WA
Under funding from the Australian Government’s National
Community Crime Prevention Program, The Song Room has commenced music and
creative arts programs in four schools in the Mandurah region South of Perth.The project employs
an early intervention strategy that
promotes independence and encourages
students to engage with their school community and use music and performing
arts programs to enhance engagement, aspiration and achievement. These are the
key factors in the prevention of juvenile crime.
