Melbourne’s Dazzling Children Sing n’ Swing into Action!
The Sing ’n Swing Show was a celebration of what happens when song and dance come together in a great genre of music that took the world by storm in the 1920s and 1930s. On 20 November at the Melbourne Town Hall, 500 primary school students from across Melbourne went dancing down memory lane to the days of Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington, singing and dancing to old time tunes such as Minnie The Moocher, Summertime and Hit The Road Jack, backed by a swinging big band!
All of the participating schools were involved in Song Room workshop programs over the course of six months, leading up to this wonderful massed choral and creative movement event. Each school was led and mentored by dedicated Song Room Teaching Artists and the combined Sing n’ Swing performance was the first time they had come together to display the skills they had learnt.
Following The Sing n’ Swing Show, the children were treated to The Circus Comes to The Song Room with the fabulous Mark Holden as Ring Leader, featuring acts of skill and hilarity.
Over 500 students performed from eight Primary Schools including the Fitzroy and St Albans Sacred Heart Schools and Thomastown, Southvale, Westall, Abbotsford, Dallas and Reservoir East Primary Schools.
