Geelong’s Children Hear their Voices in the Air!
Over 200 children from all over Geelong who had participated in free, tailored workshops provided by The Song Room performed at the I Hear the Voices in the Air event at Deakin University’s Costa Hall in December 2008.
I Hear the Voices in the Air! was a massed choral event where the children shared songs they had been practising over the past six months. It was a celebration of children’s music making with most songs being performed a capella or with a ukulele accompaniment. The program brought together songs of all genres and eras with classics such as The Lion Sleeps Tonight performed alongside more contemporary hits like Mickey and We’re All in This Together.
The second half of the performance program showcased the talents of local secondary students where the talented group The Sweethearts, wooed the children with soul and motown songs.
Primary Schools participating in this event were Bell Park North, Corio, Geelong East, Newcomb Park and Rosewall, with a 650 strong audience of parents, friends and teachers.
This program was supported by the Strategic Partnerships Program from the Victorian Department of Education and Early Childhood Development and Deakin University who provided Costa Hall free of charge.
