The Song Room Starts Up In Western AustraliaThe Song Room is very pleased to announce the commencement of innovative programs in Mandurah, Western Australia, south of Perth. Funded under the Federal Attorney General’s National Community Crime Prevention Program, the project employs an early intervention strategy that encourages the students to engage with their school community and uses music and performing arts programs to enhance engagement, aspiration and achievement, as well as promote independence. These are the key factors in the prevention of juvenile crime. The schools involved in this major three year project are Mandurah, Dudley Park and Riverside Primary Schools and Coodanup Community College. The Song Room has placed ‘Drumbeat” into Riverside and Mandurah Primary Schools and Coodanup College which uses an innovative drums/percussion program for children especially identified by the schools as disengaged and ‘at risk’. |
