The Song Room’s Multi-Lingual Hip Hop Event for Young People – Mental Health Day 2007

As part of World Mental Health Day’s theme of The Impact of Culture and Diversity, secondary students from some of Melbourne’s most disadvantaged and culturally diverse schools attended a performance at the Song Room’s home at Abbotsford Convent and took part in a workshop by one of Australia’s leading multicultural Hip Hop acts,Uber Lingua.

With artists representing a range of cultures, Uber Lingua presented Ya Lingo! A Hip Hop battle where each MC will rap in his or her own mother tongue! Students from a range of schools participated including refugee students from Collingwood English Language School and students with emotional and behavioural challenges from various transitional and community schools. Information about mental health services was available to the students, courtesy of the Inspire and Reach-Out Foundations.
